HOW TO INSTALL ARTIFICIAL TURF IN 7 STEPS
Learn everything it takes to perfectly lay artificial grass at home.
1. CLEARLY MARK THE TURF INSTALLATION AREA
Before you lay your artificial turf, make sure to remove any existing weeds, grass or extra soil on the installation area. When clearing the area, make sure you allow for a depth of at least 60mm. You can create a stronger base with a thicker metal dust base (60mm – 70mm is recommended). Please note that if the artificial grass is intended for car parking, the base needs to be at least 150mm thick.
2. APPLY THE STONE AGGREGATE (BLUE METAL DUST)
Once the turf installation area is cleared, apply the stone aggregate with a rake to smooth out the stones. Screed the aggregate stone until it is level to ensure proper drainage. Then, spray water on the aggregate stone and compact it until the whole install area is firm and even.
3. ROLL OUT EACH SECTION OF ARTIFICIAL TURF
Important note for this step: Make sure all pieces have the yarn lying in the same direction.
4. MARK THE SEAM LOCATION & JOINING THE TURF WITH TAPE
Before you pull back the surface of the turf to expose 30cm of the crushed stone aggregate, make sure to mark the location of the seam. Next, roll the turf joining tape down the seam before applying adhesive onto the joint tape. Then lay the turf pieces together. Apply pressure to the seam to ensure it’s firmly connected.
5. SECURE THE TURF
Next, place one 25cm (250mm) aluminium spike at every corner. Place at least one long flathead nail or U-Shaped Peg every 30 cm all along the edges. Place one long nail or U-shape pin every 20 cm on the join and along both sides of the join to make it secured.
6. FIT THE SYNTHETIC TURF
Next step is to trim the turf along its edge to ensure it fits snugly within the space.
7. APPLY THE INFILL (WHITEWASHED SANDS)
Use a power broom or lawn broom to smooth out the sands and seal your lawn. We recommend a white sand infill of 5 to 15kg for every square metre of artificial turf, depending on the type. As the density of our artificial grass is high, no rubber granules or additional sand are required for your turf installation.
